Considerations for selecting shaft materialsWhen selecting shaft materials, the following factors need to be considered:

1,Strength requirements: According to the axial load and bending moment borne by the shaft, select materials with sufficient strength, such as carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, etc.

2,Wear and friction: Consider the friction and wear between the shaft and other parts, and select materials with good wear resistance and low friction coefficient, such as copper alloy, molybdenum alloy, etc.

3,Corrosive environment: According to the use environment of the shaft, select materials with good corrosion resistance, such as stainless steel, acid and alkali resistant steel, etc.

4,Temperature and thermal expansion: For shafts working in high temperature environments, it is necessary to select materials that can resist high temperature deformation, such as high temperature alloys, nickel-based alloys, etc.

5,Weight: The weight of the shaft has a certain impact on the performance and efficiency of the entire system. Therefore, within the allowable range, choosing lightweight materials can reduce the load and improve efficiency.

In actual cases, such as in the design of machine tool spindles, the rotation accuracy, stiffness, vibration resistance, thermal deformation, etc. of the shaft system are required to be high. Designers need to select appropriate bearing types based on these requirements, such as standard rolling bearings, deep groove ball bearings, double-row radial short cylindrical roller bearings, tapered roller bearings, thrust bearings, etc., and consider the supporting applications and installation methods of the bearings.
