Thermal spraying technology has a good positive impact on the corrosion resistance of mechanical parts, mainly through the following ways:

1, the formation of a dense protective layer: thermal spraying can form a dense coating on the surface of the seal, which can act as a physical barrier to prevent corrosive media from directly contacting the seal matrix. The higher the density of the coating, the better the shielding effect on the corrosive medium.

2, the use of corrosion resistant materials: Thermal spraying can use a variety of corrosion resistant materials, such as stainless steel, nickel-based alloys, cobalt-based alloys, ceramics (such as Al2O3, ZrO2), etc., these materials themselves have excellent corrosion resistance. By spraying these materials on the surface of the seal, it can effectively improve its corrosion resistance in corrosive environments.

3, improve the surface microstructure: the coating formed by thermal spraying usually has a microcrystalline or amorphous structure, which can improve the material's resistance to pitting and crevices corrosion. Micro-cracks and pores in the coating can be further reduced by post-treatment (such as heat treatment, grinding), further enhancing corrosion resistance.

4, improve the surface hardness: thermal spraying coating often has a high hardness, which can reduce the surface of mechanical damage, such as scratches and wear, thereby reducing the corrosive medium through these damage parts into the matrix.

5, the formation of protective oxide film: some spraying materials can form protective oxide film in a specific environment, such as stainless steel in an oxygen-containing environment to form a passivation film, this film can effectively prevent further corrosion.

6, improve thermal stability: under high temperature or thermal cycle conditions, thermal spray coating can provide additional thermal protection, reduce the impact of thermal stress on the seal and prevent thermal corrosion.

Through the above mechanism, thermal spraying technology can effectively improve the corrosion resistance of seals in various corrosive environments, extend their service life and reduce maintenance costs. However, the effect of thermal spraying is also affected by the spraying material, process parameters, post-treatment methods, and the working environment of the seal, so these factors need to be taken into account when selecting thermal spraying materials and processes to ensure that corrosion resistance is achieved.
